The Good Commerce is a Framer plugin for Swell stores. Components go on the page, products sync in, and the published site runs on live pricing, variants, cart and checkout. It is the first Swell to Framer integration, built solo from the plugin interface to the runtime to the checkout.

The gap

Over sixteen thousand Framer designers run a store through a Shopify plugin. Three plugins split that market between them, and none of them work with anything else. Swell merchants who wanted a Framer storefront had no path at all. Six years leading design at Swell made the size of that gap hard to ignore, and the fact that it was still open in 2025 said something about how few people sit across both tools.

The architecture

Every existing plugin picks a side. Fetch at runtime and the design process happens against loading spinners. Sync the catalogue into the CMS and the CMS starts to disagree with the store. Both produce the same support ticket about stale prices.

TGC syncs a small snapshot of chosen products into Framer CMS, enough to design with real titles, images and prices. On publish, each component reads its product ID and fetches the rest from Swell. The CMS is for designing. Swell is for selling.

The decisions

The components are styled through Framer’s own property panel rather than shipped as code for a developer to edit. The audience is designers who chose Framer to avoid handoff, so a component that needs a developer to change its font would be a step backwards.

The runtime initialises itself. The first component on a page creates it and every other component finds it. The alternatives were a file installed into the project, which people delete, or an invisible provider component to drag onto every page, which people forget. Neither survives contact with a designer who is not reading documentation.

Seventeen components, one shared runtime, a Stripe checkout. Launched 2026 as a one time purchase with lifetime updates, because a subscription for a plugin feels like paying rent on a tool you already bought.
